"My husband and I joke that we're married BECAUSE of Manic Botanic.
Smitten, when we started properly "courting", the distinctive arrangements punctuated ALL special dates - our first, my birthday... "I love you"... happy Friday (he didn't need much of an excuse).
But the arrival of three stems of the most amazing flowers cemented in my mind that he was - and is - THE ONE.
They looked like big purple afros, on long stems. A mass of tiny little flowers that looked like you could blow them away with a puff. Delicious spheres resembling gorgeous, mauve basketballs on leggy stalks as thick as your finger. Stunning.
Striking yet delicate - and, I'm told, unusual because they only bloom once a year. Unique, like this lovely man, I thought.
Except they smelt like onions.
Far from putting me off, the blooms reinforced to me, that this man is head and shoulders above the pack. Not for him wishy washy roses or predictable posies. Oh no - he looked beyond the shallow. He chose bold ... handsome.. enchanting to tell - and show me - how he felt. Not so much a statement, as a shout.
And, after just four months of going out together - or, truth be told, of staying home smooching like crazy - he chose me. For life.
And of course, I said yes.
Ten and a half years of marriage later, there've been so many magic Manic moments - birthdays, babies (two little girls who also adore their Daddy) , "happy love days".... the list goes on.
